About the Program

The Section 8 Housing Program is a popular program where HADCO pays a portion of the rent directly to a landlord on behalf of the participant and the participant pays the remaining portion of the rent. The participant’s portion of the rent can never be more than 40% of their adjusted gross income. HADCO currently has 763 Family Choice Vouchers  and 111 VASH Vouchers (for Veterans) available for Douglas County residents.

There is a waitlist for this program. Interested families are asked to complete a pre-application and turn in verification of Social Security Numbers to be placed on the wait list. There is no preferences for applicants. Everyone is placed on the wait list by the date and time of their pre-application. Once an applicant has reached the top of the wait list they will be contacted for a more detailed application along with required income and asset verifications.  Interested families can apply through this web site, by mailing in an application, or by coming to our administrative office.

Waiting List Paused

HADCO has temporarily paused assigning Section 8 vouchers to families at the top of the waiting list. We anticipate that this pause will continue through Summer 2025, if not longer. The waiting list is still open to new applicants. In the meanwhile, if you are already on the Section 8 waiting list, it is vital that you inform us of any changes in your contact information, especially your mailing address. We send all correspondence about your application by US Mail. If we do not receive a response to a request for information and/or documentation, you may be removed from the waiting list.
