Veteran’s Housing Navigator

Overview

The Veteran’s Housing Navigator program provides housing-related case management services to eligible Veterans in Douglas County. The goal of the program is to reduce and prevent Veteran homelessness by supporting Veterans as they work to overcome the challenges that lead to losing permanent housing.

Eligibility

The Veteran must have served active duty in the United States military for at least one day or more and cannot have been dishonorably discharged. Additionally, the Veteran must be homeless, previously homeless, at risk of homelessness, living with family or friends, or struggling with housing stability.

Services

Our case management philosophy is to meet Veterans where they are and build on their natural strengths, skills, and motivation with more intense case management up front and reduced case management as the Veteran’s goals are achieved. The intensity can always be adjusted based on the needs and preferences of the individual Veteran. Case management services must be housing-related and can include health-related case management if the Veteran’s health has been a barrier to maintaining permanent housing.

Services include housing search, support in maintaining permanent housing, community services referrals, establishing and maintaining primary and behavioral health services, nutrition and meal planning, transportation, landlord and tenant rights and responsibilities education, landlord dispute resolution, and assistance applying for and accessing services and benefits.
